Have to admit that I was very impressed with the speed at which i was able to set this Bridge up.
Basically, connect to the wireless bridge via a network cable. install the software from CD. The wizard takes care of the rest.
I was up and running in 5 minutes.
My setup is a Wireless Bridge to my Sky Broadband Router.
I use the 4 ports to connect to my TV, BlueRay Recorder and XBox (+ 1 spare).
So far have tested steaming from my Windows 7 Media Centre Desktop and it work wonderfully.
Most importantly, I did not want to run a cable to my living room and for £50 I have done the job satisfactorily to my wifes liking :-)

I bought one of these to bypass the poor built-in wi-fi (small internal aerial) of a Mac Mini, which was causing a big problem due to the distance from the wireless router. I set the device up via the web interface, which was reasonably straightforward, except for an apparent bug when searching for networks and then selecting the one you want, which didn't seem to work at all. The simple solution was to manually enter the SSID. With this done and the Mac's network settings set back to DHCP from the 1.1.1.1 address needed to access the web interface, I had a stable network connection at last. A neat solution to an annoying problem.

Wireless networks work well with PCs and notebooks because its easy to buy a network adaptor for them, but what about printers and games consoles? Buffalos HighPower Ethernet Converter aims to cater for these devices.
Just plug up to four Ethernet devices into the ports on the back, and theyll be converted to a wireless signal that talks to your router. Its ideal when you have a room with one or more devices, such as a console or media receiver, that you want to connect to the network.
We tested by connecting to a standard 802.11g 54Mbit/s wireless network. At close range we recorded 17.52Mbit/s, while 10m away it achieved 14.22Mbit/s. These scores are excellent for an 802.11g 54Mbit/s network and comparable to the scores we saw with Buffalos HighPower PC Card adaptor.
This is another great product in the HighPower range, though a wizard-based setup that configures security settings would help make it easier to install.
I first bought the WET54G since I already owned a great Linksys router but the WET54G did not live up to its router cousins standards at all.
Now Ive got the Buffalo bridge Im miffed that I didnt buy it first. It worked first time, has no issues with my WPA and best of all I can lose my 4-port hub-switch and associated power supply as the Buffalo comes with 4 ports already!
Very good product. Too bad that CityLink did not live up to their next day delivery. I wasted a whole day waiting for them...

Have deployed 6 of these over 2 years. They all just, and give superb range.
Note they are *NOT* WDS repeaters - they connect to a wireless access point to provide remote hard-wired ethernet connection to that access point - so you can have remote ethernet devices that plug in just as if they were plugged into hub sockets on the remote access point - a wireless bridge.
Range excellent, and mine have worked well with Buffalo HP access point, Draytek Vigor 2600 (not a strong ap, but works well with these converters), and recent BT Homehubs - excellent range even from the supplied 2dB antennas at each end.
I had one that used to stop working randomnly in a very hot room in summer. Replaced it and never had another problem.
Simple config - select SSID of required access point and enter network key if used. Trivially easy if you use a matching Buffalo access point with AOSS.
Thoroughly recommend. V good with 9/12/15dBi corner reflector 60m+ range from HomeHub with 12dB.

I waited for this to come back into stock, and Im glad I did. I had wireless cards in a number of PCs in a separate building. The links were slow and often dropped, so I connected this to my Linksys WAG200 ADSL router via wireless, and wired the PCs to this router. The result was astonishing. The whole network is so much faster, and connection from the PCs to the outside world is amazing. For the price, this is a great piece of kit and I highly recommend it for extending your wireless network. My only gripe is that I couldnt get a connection using AES, only TKIP. Probably something Im doing wrong though.

We have a remote office, 100m from where the DSL comes in to the building. Although one or two PCs will connect happily - they are slow and most dont at all. This achieves near full signal strength.
We have it plugged in to a Linksys PAP2 for VOIP calls which never worked before at that range.
and other than looking at the lights flashing - it doesnt need any more attention.
We have just bought a second one for an even more remote office to connect VOIP and a network printer.
Very impressed overall.

In my experience the performance issues seen by Peter Bridgman are absolutely NOT typical of the performance of this excellent product.
The point to bear in mind is that it relies on a good quality, stable wireless signal from your existing router. If that is not there, or there is interference then you may get problems. As a check you can always hard wire the WLI-TX4-G54HP to a router as it has 4 ethernet ports.
It may have been that this was just a substandard example, and in that case it ought to have been returned for a replacement.
What is not right in my opinion is to totally condemn a product based on a single experience.
My WLI-TX4-G54HP runs for weeks at a time with no breaks whatever. I can say that because I run a software monitor on my broadband connection and that shows there has been a continuous link all that time. So if you want a good reliable 11g bridge/ethernet convertor that believe me and other people this product is the best in the business.

This piece of kit was a complete disaster. The setup was functional, if limited, but its performance was dire. Expect dropouts and reboots between once every 10 mins and 2 hours. Even then, a reboot often doesnt fix it. Turn it off, reboot the access point, turn it back on, turn it off, turn it on, turn it off, turn it on, plug in Ethernet cable, ping router. Repeat until you dont timeout when pinging the router. Even then, you can expect a packet loss of about 10%. Not good at all. Do not buy. At the moment, mine is doing what it does every now and again; stop working with no avail for about two hours, until deciding it wants to work again. I am now buying a good sensible Linksys one because this is so useless. I would be embarrassed if I had recommended this to a customer. Moral: Dont buy Buffalo. And certainly dont buy this!

I use this to connect 2 XBoxes and a computer back to my BT Home broadband, and it works perfectly! BT Homehub is set to WPA-PSK (WPA+WPA2), the G54HP is set to AES (WPA-PSK). It took under 5 minutes to set up, including flashing the latest firmware (http://www.buffalo-technology.com/support/getfile/?WLI-TX4-G54HP_2.53_3.01-US_US-uclibc) and changing the IP address, and has work faultlessly ever since. Does exactly what it says on the tin!

I set this up manually, but there is a setup program on the included CD or you could use Buffalo's AOSS system. Once setup which only took a few mintues the range, performance and reliability were fantastic. There is nothing else on the market to match this.
Like Tedgo I found initially that the wired clients could see the wireless clients but not vice-versa. I adjusted some of the settings in my anti-virus/firewall software and this problem disappeared. So his comments regarding compatability in my view are incorrect, and as Buffalo told him it is a firewall issue and not anything to do with the hardware.
The big bonus with this unit is that anything that can use an ethernet connection can be plugged into it, such as XBox, Slingbox - not just PCs.
If I could award this product six stars, I would.

WDS requires input of SSID and mac address of remote access point. The Buffalo is a standard (non-WDS) bridge. Surprising as other Buffalos in the same range have a fully compliant WDS Bridge mode.

I have now modified my view of the Buffalo WLI-TX4-G54HP. It has a flaw in that on my network set up, using an Orange Livebox access point, the computers attached to the Buffalo cannot connect with any wireless computers which access the Livebox directly. Computers connected to the Livebox using wired Ethernet can see and access the whole system including those attached to the Buffalo and the independent wireless computers.
Buffalo Technical Support says its a Windows Networking problem or a Firewall problem. I think the Buffalo box does not know how to fully coexist with other independent wireless computers.

The wirless part of my network was on WEP and I really struggled to set this device up. It would not connect to the wireless network. Nothing else had any problem.
I read the comments on this review and removed the password and made it open with MAC filtering. The device connected.
I then added a WPA PSK and lo and behold it actually worked.
My conclusion is this device does not work with WEP. If you do not have the option to use WPA do NOT buy this device until it is fixed by buffalo.
This gets only two thumbs because it took so much effort to get it to connect to the network. If it turns out to be ok in use I will probably end up giving it more than this.

The Buffalo WLI-TX4-G54HP works fine with our Orange Livebox. I use it in our workshop to connect 2 PC's and various industrial non PC computers to the office network.
It took slightly longer to set up, as I connected it to a standalone computer rather than to the WIRED network from the Livebox. The supplied configuration software, on CD, should be used with a wired connection to the router/Dhcp server so that an IP address can be allocated, to the WLI-TX4-G54HP, which Internet Explorer can access. (Note the supplied software has an error in that when one clicks on configure it starts IE with "IP address/cgi-bin/index.cgi" which is not valid. The allocated IP address alone should be used in IE)
I configured the standalone computer to IP 1.1.1.2 and mask 255.255.255.0. Using the IP address 1.1.1.1 in IE, the WLI-TX4-G54HP immediately found the Livebox wireless connection. The encryption setting was TKIP along with the encryption number. A working connection was established straigh

Team this up with a WHR HP G54 wireless ADSL router and you will get amazing range. I sit in the garden, 35 metres away from the buffalo kit which is the far side of the house and 3 flors up and receive full signal on the laptop. Setup is easy for idiots - press a button on the router and press a button on the WLI TX4 and hey presto - you have a totally secure encrypted connection. Now how easy is that!

For connecting a group of wired computers to a wireless network this is a great solution. I have tried it with a few different wireless APs and it works perfectly with D-LINK access points / routers, and also with Linksys routers. However the Belkin router I tried it with was an absolute no-go; it would see the wireless network but nothing I tried would make it connect (even a firmware update on the Belkin made no odds - and whose support were most unhelpful I might add). Not the greatest web-based configuration page I have seen, but it is functional and does the job. Overall highly recommended. And superb next day delivery as well!

I bought this device last week. The reason to buy this one was a built-in 4 port switch. The problems started when trying to wirelessly connect to my USR9106 router. No way, with or w/o encryption. I could only connect ... to my neighbour's unsecured 11b network ;-). After some investigations I found a Buffalo FAQ on the Internet, and one of the questions was that the product "would usually not work with other vendors'" access point in a bridge mode. If this is true I have a bridge which cannot work as a bridge. I sent an email to Buffalo support, will see what they say. I have one USR bridge already (from Broadbandbuyer), but needed another one, and USR bridges are currently not available.
The compatibility problems are neither mentionned in the manuals nor on the product box.! I was aware of range extenders compatibility problems, but I wouldn't expect this to be the case for a bridge.
I'm giving low rating, but will keep you informed about the progress;-)
