This router brilliant for general surfing. loads web pages very quickly on both my computer and my Nokia N95 8GB. However, as a someone has said on this page, i have many problems with my Xbox 360 and Xbox Live.
First off, the router seems to have mood swings as i like to call them. Some days, Xbox Live works perfectly everything loads well and no in-game. But most of the time, The router will have a terrible connection to the Xbox 360, no matter where it is positioned in my house, meaning most xbox live functions will not work.
Also, the router cannot seem to keep its settings for the Xbox for very long and i find when reconfiguring wireless settings, the router has creted an entirely new IP address for my console. To solve this i tried setting a static route fo my Xbox 360. But the router refuses to accept the static ip address even after entering it into the routers set up page before hand. This and random disconnects make this router a dreadful one for use with online gameplay.

This was a present for a friend who uses Vista on her laptops.
But I have an earlier Netgear model myself which I use with Linux laptops, and have been very pleased with it.

Using this router for general surfing or home networking, the router is GREAT! Easy to install and the default settings will get you set up and ready to roll in no time. HOWEVER!!!! If you plan on using your XBox 360 in conjunction with this router DON'T! Else, you will be faced with hours upon hours of troubleshooting your NAT setting to allow full functionality on XBox Live. Have had issues with this router holding specific settings. Must continually apply settings I've changed in order for them to hold.

Netgear definitely gave me the runaround when my WGR614v6 was defective. They asked me a lot of questions, repeatedly, and delayed, and lost the support records, etc., until they were so confused ... I specifically asked for a warranty replacement and they refused. I think they would have agreed if their records hadn't been so messed up, so you could say their confusion was the real culprit. Netgear rally failed me this time.

Installed the router to a blueyonder broadband cable modem.
Though the setup instructions are extensive I still had a number of problems: for example during the router setup it insisted that there was no internet connection though the connection was working fine. After trying removal of all firewalls I disabled other unused network connections on the pc and it connected well via a WG111 adapter.
The manual is not very well written and contains a lot of jargon but it does allow a reasonably painless setup if you are patient.
The signal is ok through one floor to the loft where I have a second pc and there have not been many dropouts.
A laptop was also connected to the internet via the router very quickly and easily.

Site is informative, clear and easy to use. Picked up good tips from the review section which saved me time and effort.
Potentially useful info - I run a Mac Pwerbook, OSX on NTL broadband. The Netgear WGR 614 set up without problems, looks good and is small enough to be hidden away on a shelf. The signal strength is good over 2 floors.

I am totally impressed with the level of service I recieved they were just so helpful and I really did not feel like I was dealing with an internet company, their advice is given freely and without bias, If you are thinking of buying computer equipment then I urge you to use this company, they are specialists and if you are not sure about the products to buy or how to install the hardware, they will take you step by step over the phone, in short if you are going to have a problem I can't think of anyone better to have it with. Again thankyou broadband buyer and especially the tech support chap I spoke 2(no names, but you know who u are ;)

It works fine, helpful interface.
I got problems with wireless adapters though.
so far, netgear's usb adapter and a pcmcia .b adapter connected
with this router.
But even netgear's PCI adapter did poorly a couple meters away.
For it to work, it had to remain very close, closer than my
ethernet cable!!
also, a dlink usb adapter is not working either. Keeps flashing
connected/ not connected.
if anybody knows why, let me know.

I did not know anything about setting up routers, and the CD that came with it gave me step by step guide on getting everything up and running within 10 minutes.
This router works perfectly with Blueyonder Broadband and you don't have to worry about messing with the DHCP settings as it's all automatic. One thing I had to change manually was to set the IP on automatic in the network options.
This has to be the best looking router in the market! The white sleek casing is complimented with the see through acrylic/plastic and it's small so it can fit in many places.
Just remember to disable SSID, enable MAC filtering and enable WEP if you want some sense of security. And also, remember to change the password after logging on to the router so that your neighbours can't do anything silly.
I am thoroughly impressed with this router and is definately worth more then what it is priced.

Ok, so the actual product, well I have telewest broadband with cable router and everything went absolutely smoothly - installation within minutes! This product comes with a setup wizard which configures everything for you by occasionaly asking you yes/no questions, it really was very simple. I highly recommend netgear if your not an expert on wireless configurations. Also their technical support was excellent, answering my call (about security setup) within about 20 seconds! I get either very good or excellent signal all around my house, can't wait for the summer to try the laptop in the garden! I bought a USB adapter with this and I really recommend that instead of installing the PCI adapter because this is so much simpler!
In conclusion, if your not experienced with wireless routers or struggle with computers in general, this is the router for you!

Well done Broadband buyer.
Finally decieded to purchase a wireless router and chose this one after a lot of searching various web sites.
Ordered it at 15:30 on Friday last week and it arrived Monday at 09:50. Result...!!!
Unboxed it and started to connect it together.
One thing I found very confusing about it was the fact that no where did the manual or Smart Setup Wizard mention about what to do if you have a USB Broadband modem already installed. After waiting on the Tech Support line for over 20 minutes finally got the answer.
Plugged it all together and wow it works really well.
Recommend this to anyone who is non-technical like myself and wants a really good wireless option.
Please kick Netgear to include a bit in the manual about what to do if your existing Broadband modem is connected via USB.

I bought a WGR614 and a WG511 as an upgrade for an Intel Anypoint Wireless network. Having used a variety of Networks before I was reasonably optimistic I could get it working but after two months I was starting to loose patience. The problem I had was a highly unstable wireless connection which would disconnect even when the laptop was next to the router. Netgears Support failed to resolve the problem.
I found a solution on Amazon.com which involved registering the IP adresses in the advanced LAN setup menu by telling the Router the IP adress of all the Computers on the network connection stability was established and so far I have had no further problems with dissconnecting wireless links. I would say the performance is good but would hesitate to reccomend it in view of the problems with manual configuration and the lack of help from Netgear.

Beware!

The quality of this product is pretty good - it does everything it's meant to.
However the reason I've only given it two thumbs up is that I purchased it with an ADSL modem to connect to BT Openworld. Unfortunately, this product does not have the correct routing protocols to allow me to connect (PPPoATM). This meant that I have had to use a rather "dirty" method of getting it to work as my wireless router (I'm effectively only using it as a wireless access point, with the modem doing the routing). This has meant that effectively the two machines on the network cannot view each other.
This isn't a big deal, as I bought the item to share my internet connection. But I would advise all potential buyers to check which protocol you will be using to connect, and if it's PPPoATM (which apparently, is fairly standard across the UK & Europe), you'll find that you can't fully utilise this router.

Got the router home, surpised how small and light it is ! Setup really was very easy, and I was reconnected to the Internet via my NTL broadband immediately - no hassle.
Fired up the laptop, it connected straight away, and works in every room in the house. Marvellous! I haven't enabled encryption, MAC address filtering or hiding SSID yet, (or upgraded the firmware), but I'm mighty impressed so far.
