This ADSL router looks quite stunning and comes with a set up guide. It is my first WIRELESS router, but it seemed quite straightforward to set up, using either the web configurator (wizard or advanced) or the set up wizard on the provided CD (which includes a manual of several hundred pages).

Unfortunately, the wizard was unable to detect the correct settings for my ISP. I recommend you get the following from your ISP before setting up: Encapsulation Type, User Name, Password, Multiplexing Type, VPI number, VCI Number, IP Address (if static), First DNS Server & Second DNS Server.

I did just that & set up was then a "breeze"; internet access was instant!

I must say that the ZyXel P-660HN-F1Z router exceeds all my expectations of coverage. The on/off button for wireless transmission is also a great idea too.

Zyxels P-660HN-F1Z has a range of clever features, some of which make it well suited for use in a small office as well as a home.

We tested the router with Zyxels NWD271N wireless adaptor. It performed poorly, with speeds as low at 38.7Mbit/s even at a distance of 1m. At 10m it could only manage 24Mbit/s and it failed to connect at 20m. Fortunately, tests with a Centrino 2 laptop were much better, with speeds of 36.2Mbit/s at 10m and an excellent 21.4Mbit/s at 20m.

Despite its low price, Zyxels P-660HN-F1Z is overkill for home use. If you run a business, though, its extra security features make this a tempting router to buy.
