Wireless performance is the best we've seen so far

We like the Linksys WAG320Ns ease of use, and its interface is one of the swiftest weve seen — the router doesnt need to restart anytime you make a change to its settings. The USB storage port works well, the router supports DynDNS and forwarding ports is easy.
The modem was fast in our long-range tests and the 5GHz wireless performance is the best weve seen so far. However, its not a simultaneous dual-band router: you can run either at 2.4GHz or at 5GHz. This is a limitation thats unfortunate as most of us still need to run a mixture of devices. As such, we only recommend this dual-band router if youre going to solely run 5GHz devices with it.

WAG320N shows signs of being a competent home router

The WAG320N shows signs of being a competent home router. Its primarily an ADSL2+ device, but you can also turn one of its Ethernet ports into a WAN port to support a cable connection.
A USB port allows the sharing of external storage devices, and a media server function allows music, video and photos on an attached drive to be streamed to UPnP devices and players around the network.
Its four Ethernet ports are also Gigabit, but that isnt reflected in its performance. Wed expect faster trasmit and receive transfers (from and to the router using a test laptop equipped with Intels powerful WiFi Link 5300 chipset) than 92Mbits/sec and 65Mbits/sec from a 300Mbits/sec 5GHz router at close range.

A worthwhile upgrade to replace a struggling broadband router

The frequency switching lets it switch from standard Wi-Fis 2.4GHz to 5GHz. This is traditionally used by 802.11a Wi-Fi devices, but the Linksys can also use it in 802.11n mode. However, youll need to get a compatible adapter for it to work and you may find the range isnt as good. That said, anyone in a small house or flat in a built-up area should be able to see the benefit.
Those with ADSL broadband looking for a new modem router could do well to consider this. It isn’t the most exciting of products but it has some interesting features, particularly if you’ve got files to share or access outside your home, and your surrounding area is crammed full of competing Wi-Fi networks.

I am using the Router with BE ISP, in Bridge/ADSL2+ mode to my local telephone exchange. Works perfectly, no problems. I get a Download sync speed of around 23,550mbps.
The gigabit ports work very well, giving me around 35mb (megabytes) per second into my NAS (Synology DS209).
Not really used the media server which is built-in, but I know it does work.
I found the wireless abilities a little slow compared to an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station, only achieving around 170-220mbps link speed in 802.11n 5ghz mode.
The only issue I had was when I connected a USB hard drive. After mapping a drive from my PC, any files I copied to the HDD disappeared in Windows Explorer. When connecting the drive directly to the PC, the files appeared. So perhaps some firmware issue with the Router.
In summary, as an ADSL2+ modem/router, I have no problems at all. Stable, solid performance, and looks good too ;-)

The WAG320N is a step in the right direction for ADSL routers

Unusually for an ADSL router, the WAG320N has Gigabit Ethernet, which is great if you need a fast connection to move large files across your local network. The first Ethernet port can be reconfigured as a WAN port, making this router suitable for use with a cable modem
It achieved excellent speeds in 5GHz mode, giving us 90.1Mbit/s in our 10m test, although this precludes the use of any 2.4GHz devices.
The WAG320N is a great buy if youll use the USB storage server and Gigabit Ethernet. Even though it can transmit on only one band at a time, this isnt a disaster given the small number of 5GHz devices currently available.
