Up to 1000 Gs of Shock Resistance
The Seagate Momentus 5400.6 drive offers the best combination of capacity, mobility and durability in a laptop hard drive. Using optional G-Force Protection, this drive provides added durability and robustness in the event of the accidental drops that can occur in strenuous mobile environments. With capacities from 120 GB to 500 GB, the Momentus 5400.6 drive meets the demanding requirements of today’s notebook multimedia usage models. Built with proven Seagate perpendicular recording technology and able to withstand up to 1000 Gs of shock, this highly reliable 2.5-inch drive is perfect for notebook or external storage applications. Backed by a 5-year limited warranty.

G-Force Protection
When a laptop is dropped, the most catastrophic damage to the hard drive occurs when the head scrapes across the surface of the disk, causing potential data loss. The G-Force Protection feature, an optional drop sensor, protects the Momentus 5400.6 drive against shock by sensing when the system is in a freefall state, moving the heads off the platter and locking them in place—all within three-tenths of a second.

IMPORTANT ADVICE

Laptop Drives are the smaller form factor (2.5”) drives, typically found in laptops, Low-Profile PCs and some Consumer Electronic equipment.

SATA
SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) hard drives are quickly becoming the new standard in hard drive technology. Motherboard manufacturers now include SATA inputs on their boards. SATA hard drives result in less clutter and increased airflow in the computer system because SATA cables are 400 percent narrower than EIDE cables. Some older computer system motherboards don't have SATA ports, but a PCI SATA controller card can be installed to add support for SATA drives. If you don't know whether your computer has SATA ports on the motherboard, refer to your computer or motherboard documentation or contact the motherboard manufacturer.

Feature SATA Hard Drives EIDE Hard Drives
Maximum data transfer rate 150 MB/s or 300 MB/s 100 MB/s or 133 MB/s (UIDE)
Devices per cable One Two
Jumper block 8-pin (no Master/Slave settings) 10-pin (single, Master, Slave, and cable select (CSEL) settings)
